《中国历代张天师评传（卷五）》既突出此期与张天师相关的重要人物、重要事件的评述，又从总体上对于此期各代张天师及其教众群体予以一般性的观照。既有对他们嗣教实践中出现的某些现象、问题相对集中的讨论，又增加教派洞天胜境、建筑艺术、斋醮科仪、神道仙话、劝善戒恶、符咒易卜、风水节庆等诸多具象符号一般性的诠释与描绘，从而使得此期张天师及其正一道能以一种更为丰满、实在、清晰、具体的历史形态进入到当代人的文化视野之中。（The Critical Biographies of Past Generations of Celestial Masters Zhang Vol. 5 puts equal emphasis on critical figures and events of Celestial Masters Zhang and on a general contemplation on generations of Celestial Mastesr Zhang and believer communities. There are both concentrated discussion on phenomenon and issues in their succession and missionary work, and general interpretation and description of concrete symbols of the sect’s cavern-heaven wonderland, architecture and art, religious service and rituals, tales of Taoist immortals, exhortations to choose goodness over evil, amulet, incantation and divination, fengshui and festivals, etc., in a view to restore a substantial, clear and detailed image of Celestial Mastesr Zhang and the Way of the Celestial Masters sect of Taoism of this period to contemporary cultural landscape. )
