The Cat is calm, observant, charismatic, independent, proud, and joyful; he knows how to strut and is impervious to judgement; he accepts himself as he is and adapts quickly; he knows to say nothing and to avoid conflicts, and yet he knows exactly what he wants and dares to ask for it. The Cat is free. After observing his cat, Ziggy, for years, Stephane Garnier became convinced that cats have life down to an art form, so he set out to share Ziggy's je ne sais quoi with the world. Highlighting forty trademark cat qualities that are (almost) entirely applicable to human daily living, Garnier provides insights that are delightfully useful as well as tips for living a day in the life of a cat-and a Q&A to test your cat quotient to see how much work you have to do learn the subtle art of living like a feline. Whether at work, at home, or in your social life, you can learn from cats how to resist stress, remain independent, never lose your charisma, and quietly influence the world around you.

George Newbern's persuasive performance highlights how cats can teach us how to live better lives, ideas based on the author's observations of his cat, Ziggy. Newbern clearly articulates the compelling argument to be inspired by cats--to adopt their view of life to learn how to let go and focus on our well-being and the essential things in life. Newbern is calmly convincing with his flowing narration as the author contrasts people and cats and defines self-confidence and true charisma. Newbern's tone takes on numerous notes as he playfully portrays how cats wake up with stretches and pendiculations (yawns) and soothingly considers cats as Buddhist teachers in their practice of sitting and observing. This is a graceful invitation to bring peace and elegance into our lives by thinking like a cat. M.F. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award © AudioFile 2018, Portland, Maine

Actor Newbern brings an aloof coolness to his reading of French novelist Garnier’s playful self-help guide. After years of enviously observing the lifestyle of his cat, Ziggy, Garnier developed the theory that people would be a lot happier if they acted more like cats. His book compiles 40 cat behaviors—such as knowing how to assert oneself calmly or being persistent in one’s demands for affection (or dinner)—to illustrate the ways humans can eliminate sources of stress by adopting the mindset of a cat. The text includes quotes from famous authors, checklists, quizzes, and other elements that are difficult to decipher in Newbern’s reading. However, reader Newbern handles the longer, more straightforward passages with ease, playfully conveying the worldview of cats with a smooth confidence and nonchalance. Though Newbern’s narration is hit or miss, the content of the book and Newbern’s attempts to mimic the attitudes of its subject are sure to please cat lovers. A HarperWave hardcover.
